Discuss! Music for the Moment

15 06 2010

Let’s get this blog talking!

As you’re reading this very sentence think about a song (or let us know what you’re listening to *right now*) that meshes with your current mood/state.

I’m listening to Jónsi’s ‘Go Do‘. He’s the lead singer of Sigur Rós – so the music style is similar to what they normally put out, albeit, incredibly uplifting. If you’re having a bad day, it’s a great tune to listen to. And if you’re having a great day, it’s an excellent soundtrack. I’m having the latter. 😀

I’m listening to The Gaslight Anthem’s album “The ’59 Sound.” The title track of the same name is a nostalgic-sounding piece of rock. I’m usually not into bands with that grainy, gravelly sound and a frontman to match, but The Gaslight Anthem seems to use its rough filter to its advantage– they’re not tough, they’re just yearning for better times. This sound combined with lyrical shout-outs to other bands that inspire the band are pretty fitting with my nostalgic mood these days as I prepare to leave home for the final time and start a new life in the slightly more gritty, blue-collar Midwest.

Mmmm. Grit. 😀 I think their titular song from that album has a feel of the 90’s… It has that I don’t care attitude mixed with contrasting walls of sound from guitars and polite backing tracks. Good stuff!
